The peroxide diffuses through the Pxmp2 channel permeable to small solutes [ 49 ], even though H 2 O 2 generated by urate oxidase localized in the peroxisome core can be directly released in the cytosol through crystalloid core tubules [ 50 ]. In any case, it is apparent that, despite high content of catalase (CAT), peroxisomes are unable to prevent the H 2 O 2 release.
